Dear MCG'ers,

I am delighted to share with you a press release from the Collections Trust announcing that the Arts Council England is supporting 50 free places for smaller museums at our Digital Asset Management for Museums conference this November.

Smaller museums to benefit as Arts Council England funds free places at Digital Asset Management Conference

Fifty small and medium-sized museums will receive expert advice about how to define, assess, and introduce effective Digital Asset Management as a result of an initiative by Arts Council England (ACE).

ACE is funding 50 free places at the Collections Trust's Digital Asset Management for Museums Conference in London on 27 November. Details are online at www.collectionslink.org.uk/dam2013.

Conference delegates will hear formal presentations and case studies from leading museum professionals and participate in debates. They will be able to raise their own issues in a special clinic session, and leading DAM software providers will provide hands-on demonstrations in the breaks.

On the day every delegate will receive a personal copy of a How-to guide titled Choosing a DAM for Your Museum. Following the conference, further resources will be freely available to delegates and the wider museums sector via the Collections Link website.

They will include: access to PowerPoint presentations; a template Invitation to Tender/Specification for a Digital Asset Management System; and a template indicative budget for both an online and locally-installed DAM system. The Collections Link website will also provide access to SPECTRUM DAM and a range of related existing published content.

The 50 free delegate places funded by Arts Council England are available on a first-come first-served basis and are specifically for museums with an annual turnover of less than £500,000. A limited number of travel bursaries will also be available for delegates travelling from outside Greater London to a maximum cost of £100 per delegate. Places will be restricted to one per museum.

Applications will be assessed by Collections Trust, and successful delegates sent a unique link to the event's online booking service. Full details about how to apply for a free place are available at www.collectionslink.org.uk/dam2013.

Arts Council England is supporting the Digital Asset Management for Museums Conference so those working in small and medium-sized museums can benefit from the latest thinking on a highly topical issue, see the latest technology in action, meet colleagues from across the community, and join in the debate. They will then be more equipped to accelerate the introduction of DAM to their museums.

"Whatever the size of your museum, investment in digital content is bringing tremendous opportunities for engagement and audience development, and setting major challenges in terms of preservation and strategic planning", says Collections Trust's CEO Nick Poole. "This welcome initiative by Arts Council England will ensure the positive messages from this inaugural conference will benefit the whole museums community".
