Dear colleagues
Since February 2012 we have been working on a putting the English Heritage collections on-line. From one perspective we are just about there, however the recent Government announcement that English Heritage will be split into two organisations has meant this project has been put on hold while decisions are made on the design of the web sites for the two new organisations.
At some point we do hope that we will be able to get further with this (either with this project or starting again from scratch). With this in mind we would be grateful for feedback from colleagues on what works (and what doesn't work) in what we have done so far. You can view the site at:
http://89.206.186.142/MWebcgi/mweb.exe?request=ks
This is on our English Heritage test web server so links which would take you to other parts of our website don't always work. The website uses Mweb software from Selago. Apart from the welcome text and the image of the gun, all of the text and images are derived from our Collections Management System (MimsyXG), which is transferred by periodic upload across our firewall.
The objects on the pilot site include the Wernher Collection at Ranger's House (around 700 objects), our archaeological and architectural collections from Reivaulx Abbey (around 4000 objects) and a selection of just over 200 objects from our Archetectural Study Collection.
