INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL MEDIA (NEW FOR 2013)
8 November 2013, London
Discover how you can start to use social media for your own professional development and engagement with your users.
Social media is becoming increasingly popular in our connected world. Social media can help you to find up-to-date information, network with your peers, market your service and even catch up with your friends.
We teach people how to find and use information. Now that everyone can access all types of information all of the time, it is vital for information professionals to be aware of how their users are getting their information. Social media is another information source that we need to get to grips with so that we can help our users to understand it and to stay one step ahead!
Introduction to Social Media will equip you with the basic skills to start using social media yourself and to experience new methods of finding information.
The workshop is a mixture of presentation, hands on and group discussion. It will give you a basic introduction to four different types of social media and give you time to explore each one during the hands on sessions. By the end of the wokshop you will have:
* Sent out your first tweet!
* Examined different styles of blogging
* Explored good examples of Facebook pages
* Considered some of the different social bookmarking tools available, and
* Discussed the pros and cons of social media with the group.
