The
Geophysics
and
Geodynamics
research
group
at
the
Johannes
Gutenberg
University
in
Mainz,
Germany,
has
an
open
position
(non
tenure-‐track)
in
geophysics.
Candidates
with
research
experience
that
complements
that
of
the
group
(for
example
in
computational
seismology
or
geodynamics)
are
preferred.
The
candidate
is
expected
to
play
a
leading
role
in
managing
the
research
group.
Mentoring
of
students,
active
publishing,
proposal
writing,
collaborative
research
and
teaching
are
required.
Teaching
duties
(with
a
minimum
of
4
hours/week
during
the
semester)
are
predominantly
at
the
Bachelors
and
early
Masters
level
in
geophysics,
geodynamics
and
quantitative
geosciences
and
can
be
done
in
either
English
or
German.
The
research
group
has
experience
in
computational
geodynamics
(particularly
on
a
crustal
and
lithospheric
scale)
and
access
to
high-‐performance
computing
facilities,
whereas
the
institute
covers
most
other
areas
of
geosciences.
Mainz
is
a
pleasant
university
town
located
about
30
minutes
away
from
Frankfurt
airport,
surrounded
by
vineyards.
The
position
is
available
from
December
2013
onwards,
but
a
later
starting
date
can
be
negotiated.
Salary
depends
on
experience
(TV-‐L
13,
100%),
and
the
position
is
available
for
3
years
with
possible
extension
for
a
second
3
years.
Proficiency
in
English
is
required,
and
the
candidate
must
have
completed
a
PhD
prior
to
the
appointment.
