'Refusing to ignore people in crisis'
The Refugee Support Service gives practical support and advice to refugees and asylum seekers. This includes guiding them through the asylum system, making them aware of their rights and entitlements, helping them integrate, advocating on their behalf and ensuring they have access to services. As the Service Coordinator you will be responsible for ensuring the service is efficient and reliable. Your role will include casework and providing practical support to asylum seekers and refugees, maintaining the destitution fund, liaising with stakeholders and raising awareness of the project to partner agencies. You will also be responsible for providing support to volunteers, which includes volunteer training, development and regular supervision.
To be successfully appointed to the post it is essential that you have previous experience of working with newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers and/or vulnerable groups. It is also essential that you are motivated and able to motivate and lead others. You should also have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.
