Dear All,
Usual apologies for cross-posting. Group members are warmly invited to put forward a paper proposal for the session Public Archaeology, Community Archaeology and Technology (http://blog.soton.ac.uk/comarch/) of the Computer Applications in Archaeology conference (CAA website: http://caaconference.org).
Eleonora Gandolfi and I will be hosting this session at the CAA conference in 22nd to 25th April 2014 in Paris.
Our purpose in this session is to estimate the viability and applicability of advanced technologies (in recording, management and/or communication of cultural heritage) for archaeology in a collaborative environment working together with communities.
This session explores how far the use of new technologies such as non-intrusive recording techniques, social media, can facilitate engagement as part of public archaeology. The session welcomes submissions addressing legal, ethical and communication issues. We encourage participants to critically reflect upon their projects’ use of technological solutions, the many forms of engagement, and the impact of these approaches on our vision of the past.
The deadline for submissions is the 31st October. A short abstract is required. Submission is through the CAA conference management system, which also has a list of other CAA sessions: http://caa2014.sciencesconf.org/
We have set up a session blog, where we will host session information nearer the date: http://blog.soton.ac.uk/comarch/ We'd like to share abstracts there, so please do send us a copy of your abstract and let us know if you're happy for it to be included in the blog.
Please do send us an email if you would like to discuss your proposal before you submit.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Nicole and Eleonora
