The Institute of Caribbean Studies, of the University of Puerto Rico-Río
Piedras (UPR-RP), invites the academic community and the general public to
the lecture *“La continuidad política en la República Dominicana
(1996-2013): Análisis y debate”* by Dr. Christian Girault, National Center
of Scientific Investigations, France,Visiting Researcher ICS. Dr. Wilfredo
Lozano, Director, Social Research and Studies Center (CIES), UNIBE, will
comment the lecture via Skype. The activity will be held on Thursday,
October 31, from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. in Amphitheatre Manuel Maldonado Denis
(CRA 108) of Carmen Rivera de Alvarado (CRA) Building, Faculty of the
Social Sciences, UPR-RP.

La República Dominicana manifiesta una expansión económica en ciertas áreas
(las zonas metropolitanas principalmente) y ostenta una modernización de
sus infraestructuras ligadas con el turismo, mientras que en otros
aspectos, esa misma evolución apunta hacia una desigualdad social y
regional, donde los pobres y la clase media están condenados a la
marginalidad o a la emigración. El balance de las tres administraciones del
presidente Leonel Fernández (1996-2000 y 2004-2012) y el actual mandatario,
Danilo Medina, permite un debate sobre, cuáles son los logros del sistema,
cuáles son las bases de esta estabilidad e, igualmente, cuáles son sus
limitaciones.
