Agree with what Andy said, plus for us TII has the advantage that it can be used across our multiple different platforms in a "sort of similar" manner. One thing to consider is that once you start to build up an institutional repository in these tools it becomes increasingly difficult to move away. Likewise if checking against submitted items at other intuitions (non published) is important for you then you probably need to use a popular tool.

Subject: Re: [BLACKBOARD-USERGROUP] Plagiarism Software
We use Turnitin.
While there have been some issues with support (name me a software problem that doesn't have support issues), we have found it to be relatively reliable and have adopted it as an institution wide submission strategy for text base assignments.
Have a look here for file limitations http://turnitin.com/en_us/training/instructor-training/submitting-papers
From above, you will notice that video files are not supported, but then again...how can you check a video for originality. It is a system for text based submission.
The BB bulding block is good and provides easy integration.
Please be aware, that this is "Originality Checking" software, not "Plagiarism Detection" software, and you will need to do some work in education students and staff alike in the interpretation of the originality reports produced. Plagiarism detection is still the remit of the tutor and the report in there to help them, not to make a decision for them.
The electronic marking side of Turnitin, negates that need for paper based submission as well. One again though, this is an education issue. Getting academic staff to move away old school scribbling on a piece of paper may be an uphill struggle, and may also be influenced by your institution's procedures and policies.
Regardless of your choice of tool, you will need to consider how you deal with system outages when they fall on submission deadlines.
Students and staff need to be aware of what they need to do in this scenario,

Subject: Plagiarism Software
Hi
Our university is about to edge towards the 21st century by introducing online submission and plagiarism checks of assessed coursework.
At present we are weighing up the pros and cons of Safeassign, or paying for Turnitin (we run Blackboard SP13, externally hosted). I have seen on here before a few people who had some problems with Turnitin (especially their user support and submission of text as an image), but wonder if anyone has any other comments/specific issues regards Turnitin - how good is the building block for BB; do you require hard copies of coursework as well as electronic copies; any issues regards submitting large files/videos?
Also, is anyone using Safeassign (or any other plagiarism software) and are willing to share their experiences?
Many thanks in advance!
Best
Chris
