Once a crime is committed and th individual is registered that is all well
and good but up until then how are we to tell???? So many times after the
event peole say 'I would never have thought that of them, or we could spot
crimes before they were committed.

Call me naïve but I don't think it is seen as a "cash cow" more "lets cover
our (the NMC) backs". I gather the NMC are struggling with the number of
fitness to practice report they have to deal with as it is. It will be an
expensive to administer so there will be a fee increase I am sure.
Further to my earlier email where I outlined my concerns that course
directors must sign an NMC "Good Health/character" form before a graduate
can register as a SCPHN. One student graduated in the days before this was
an NMC requirement. A few years post-graduation he committed a serious crime
of a sexual nature and was given a prison sentence. He also committed a
similar sexual crime in the workplace for which he was struck off the NMC
Register. Had he studied say four years later I would have been required to
sign such a form when he graduated but having no idea of his private life.
As a convicted sex offender his name now appears on a different register!
