An interesting discussion on fb .... in settler countries like Australia, US and Canada, of course, there is no medieval to be 'post' of, and much very contemporary heritage/archaeology in the highly politicised context of Indigenous self-determination, as Iain points out.
One commenter (the founder of the "Campaign for Sensible Archaeology" mob if I remember correctly) makes the following claims:
1. Contemporary archaeologists lack confidence in their own subject and cover it up with postmodern verbiage
2. There is a huge gap between the way contemporary archaeologists write about the past and how people understand the past.
