Earlier this year, some BAFTSS members saw me give a paper at the inaugural conference on a magazine called Women & Film; the first ever feminist film magazine, published in California during the early 1970s. Its many contributors included some big names from feminist film theory and film criticism in general, such as Bill Nichols, Julia Lesage, Chuck Kleinhans and the founding editors of Camera Obscura. And the magazine documented many of the key festivals, screenings and other events of the Women's Film Movement in America. 

Next month, myself and another researcher will be travelling to the US to film interviews with many of the magazine's contributors and its founding editors. This is the first stage in our plan to make a documentary about the magazine and its era and explore its connections to the political counterculture and women's liberation movement in California at that time. So, we've launched a kickstarter to help us meet some of the travelling and filming costs required to carry out these important interviews.
