We stopped doing FRS when our stock of tablets ran out and we aren't planning to embark on sugar chromatography.
However, I had an interesting talk with a GP who fells he needs such a test so that he can show that the child is NOT lactose intolerant and that he doesn't need to prescribe lactose free milk for the child.
Can't they buy it over the counter, I asked.
This is Swindon... was his reply.

Subject: Faecal Reducing substances
As part of our review of potentially redundant tests, we are thinking of stopping faecal reducing substances chromatography, as our evidence shows that it isn't actually very informative and often confusing. How do labs manage the GP request for assistance when faced with a baby with loose stools querying lactose intolerance. Is this paediatric referral, dietician referral or should the lab still offer this test.
Thanks
Martin
