Hi Chris,
I would try editing out (or "%") the "spm_progress_bar('Init',Vo.dim(3),f,'planes completed');" line of Matlab code in "spm_imcalc.m"...
Good luck!

Subject: [SPM] spm_imcalc_ui - progress bar
SPMers,
Is there a way to call spm_imcalc_ui() without having to deal with the pop-up progress bar window? I'd prefer to run the calculation silently in the background, if possible. I've noticed that when I'm running a script that calls spm_imcalc, typically in a loop, it forces the progress bar to the front every time it's called. This also makes the matlab command window active which is bad news for my script if I just happen to be copying (ctrl-c) some data at that moment. I'm not a big fan of changing default hot keys in windows or Matlab because it makes things more difficult to re-familiarize when I jump on a different computer.
