Dear List Colleagues
I have been asked to spec a project for bulk digitization scanning of a large volume of A4 documentation. I understand all paper documents are in good condition and of standard format but there could be approx 0.25 million files needing attention. As I have not previously been involved in this scale of digitization, I would be grateful for list members input.
Could list members who have had recent experience of large volume one-off digitization projects let me know:
~ how you organised / project managed the work
~ how it was resourced - balance between in-house (experts on business content) and external supplier (experts in scanning production)
~ which technologies were used and how successful
~ how files were indexed (if we scan to PDF or TIF can we automate capturing data fields for indexing?)
~ views on your chosen suppliers capability (happy to take comments off-list where appropriate)
plus any other points you feel I should be aware of.
Lastly, I would be delighted if anyone can point me to a simple metric for calculating storage volume of PDF, PDFA, TIF, JPEG files or other suitable read-only formats.
Will be happy to post summary of replies recieved back to the listserve.
Many thanks
