Dear Sharon,
Thank you for posing the question. I'm told that HighWire’s reader support team has helped you sort out your situation.
Your understanding is correct; subscriptions on the HighWire platform are indeed associated with multiple accounts. HighWire is the online host to a number of important titles. However the subscriptions lie within each publisher’s purview; it is not a shared database. Each of our ~150 publishers assigns a unique account number to their subscribers, and provides that directly to you. We support the publishers, but we do not own their internal customer data. Only the bits that allow online access is in our system, which they update frequently.
Using the free tools provided in the HighWire portal, you *can* maintain IP addresses and run usage reports across the board, for most of the publications we host. Librarians coordinate their institutional HighWire-hosted accounts in order to manage access in one place; easiest if you have all the account numbers and log in information handy. (For many, that may not be the case.) But it does require some administrative time to connect them initially.
If you subscribe to a large number of titles from the many independent HighWire affiliated publishers, and have several different people set them up with different email addresses, and need to change login information for the accounts, it can certainly be a bit of a project! We do what we can to assist, but each publisher’s subscriber database is different, and has to be pinged and affiliated one by one. For this reason, we encourage librarians to create and use a generic email address when subscribing. It makes updates and changes a lot easier.
For a wordier explanation, and more detailed information on how to affiliate your accounts, please click on the link, “How to use the administrator tools” at

I do hope this helps, and that others may find this information useful.
