Living Planet Symposium School Lab - Opportunity for outreach officers,
STEM ambassadors and S5/S6 students
The UK Space Agency is collaborating with the European Space Agency
(ESA) and German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to run a School Lab of workshops
in Edinburgh from 9 - 12 September.
The topic of the lab is Earth Observation and participants will get a
chance to use equipment used to analyse the Earth from space, including
an infrared camera, thermochromic film and a spectrometer, and the
chance to analyse real data obtained from Earth Observation using school
targeted software, LEOWorks 4 and smart apps such as Living Earth,
EarthNow and ESA CryosatHD. At the end of the workshop participants will
get the chance to tour the main symposium's poster session to meet the
scientists behind Earth Observation.
The lab is aimed at both educators, be they STEM ambassadors, university
outreach officers, school teachers etc, and S5 and S6 students. The
workshops cover content from the Biology, Chemistry, Environmental
Science, Geography and Physics Highers and Advanced Highers. They also
provide a clear example of interdisciplinary science.
The workshops are free to attend but require registration via the
