Teaching Fellow in German Language
Part Time: 568.63 hours worked over total period (0.473% FTE during the 9 months of
the appointment - equivalent to 0.355% FTE over 12 months)
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £36,064 to £39,132
per annum, pro rata, inclusive of London Allowance.
The Department of German, part of UCL's School of European Languages, Culture and
Society (SELCS) has the oldest chair of German in the UK, currently held by Professor
Susanne Kord. The Department offers teaching at undergraduate level, MA and
research level in many areas of German studies, from medieval and modern literature,
to linguistics, film, history and politics.
This is a fixed-term post for nine months and has been created to provide temporary
cover for academic staff on sabbatical or undertaking duties elsewhere in the School.
The successful candidate will prepare and deliver the undergraduate course: Modern
German Language 'ab initio', and set and mark assignments and exams, as well as
supervising online learning and holding office hours.
It is essential that the successful candidate have a broad knowledge of German
literature and culture since 1740, and have native of near-native competence in German
and English. Experience of teaching at another Higher Education Institution will be
beneficial. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills is key as well as the ability
to manage time and work to a strict deadline.
