New piece by Michael Kagan, "Why do we still have refugee camps?", on the Debate Forum of Urban Refugees: http://urban-refugees.org/debate/why-do-we-still-have-refugee-camps/
This piece is a response to several new critiques raising doubts about whether UNHCR is really committed to changing its approach, four years after the new urban policy was launched. The author argues that although there are some valid grounds for scepticism, there are also good reasons to remain enthusiastic about what UNHCR is trying to do.
This contribution was made on the Debate Forum of Urban Refugees, a new independent forum receiving contributions from a variety of actors interested in urban displacement (www.urban-refugees.org/debate). The idea underpinning this Forum is to establish a long lasting and transparent platform of discussion where consensual ideas will be challenged, misconceptions dislodged and the overall debate on urban displacement moved forward.
