Dear list
Tourism Concern is looking for a new home for its library (http://www.tourismconcern.org.uk/index.php/news/315/61/Urgent-Appeal---Help-Save-our-Library.html). Please see below for details of the collection provided by the librarian, Paul Smith. If anyone is interested in learning more, or is potentially interested in providing a new home for this collection, please contact me off-list and I will forward on your details.
Kind regards,
Ed Weech
"Tourism Concern is an NGO which was founded in 1989 and has campaigned since that date on issues born of the impact of first world tourism on the indigenous host communities of the South or the so-called Third World. TC has been located for some years in premises of London Metropolitan University which are now being vacated. As a result we are looking for a home for our physically small but specialist library. I wonder if you can help us with this. Our holdings can be categorised as follows: Travel Guides (Rough Guides/Footprint Guides), book collection, a few specialist journals, pamphlet box collections of cuttings and 'grey' literature divided thus: subjects and countries. We do possess material which is apparently held in very few other collections - this is not my opinion but that of research users.
Travel Guides and Books: 14 metres approx.
Pamphlet boxes (subjects) 15 metres very approx.
Pamphlet boxes (countries) 19 metres approx.
There are additionally some pamphlet boxes covering UK regions and London, a few reference works, and some theses presented by past grateful users of the Library together with statistics published by the World Tourism Organisation."
