Medical Statistician - 108737

Grade 8: Salary £37,382 - £44,607 p.a. (pro rata if part-time)

Applications are invited for a senior Statistician to join the Cancer Statistical Support Team of the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM) led by Professor Doug Altman in Oxford. The Cancer Statistical Support Team provides expert statistical input into collaborative health research. Projects include phase II-III national and international randomised controlled trials and observational studies. The statistician typically collaborates directly with the lead researcher, taking responsibility for the design, analysis and clear interpretation in public dissemination whilst working to agreed deadlines. The Cancer Statistical Support Team is part of OCTRU, a UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit. We also carry out methodological research, offer statistical advice to researchers and run statistical courses.

You will assist in the strategic planning for MSG support; develop the agreed strategy by targeting suitable collaborative links and bringing new projects into the department. You will collaborate directly in cancer related clinical research as the sole or senior statistical input. Additional required areas of activity are methodological research and teaching.

You will have a postgraduate qualification in applied or medical statistics, be familiar with key aspects of study design and analysis and aware of the latest statistical techniques. You will be competent in the use of multiple software packages, word processing and database packages. Furthermore, you will have good project management skills with the ability to plan and prioritise short and longer-term goals to ensure that all necessary deadlines are met simultaneously for around 10 substantive projects and a number of smaller projects.

This is a full-time (part-time considered) fixed-term post until 31 December 2014 in the first instance.

The closing date for applications is midday 29 July 2013, interviews 20 August 2013.

You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
