On the 24th September (in two months), a meeting on subjective inference and uncertainty quantification will be hosted in the School of Mathematics at the University of Leeds.
The organisers have decided to hold a day-meeting of statisticians who are of a more subjectivist persuasion. Such a meeting is timely given the increased uptake of Bayesian methodology for substantial applications that require complex uncertainties to be specified and modelled. For instance, Bayesian models are being employed in the generation of climate predictions, as bases for toxicological risk assessments and as tools for understanding financial markets. Also, from personal experience, we are coming across a growing demand from industry and government for help with decision-making processes for which subjectivist methods are ideal.
We would like to convene a group of "early-career" researchers for a day of research talks and discussions about the state of subjective methods. Currently, we have got talks lined up on:
* the role of MCMC in subjective Bayesian statistics,
* the application of Bayes linear kinematics,
* the specification of multivariate belief structures,
* and the quantification of model discrepancy.
One of the main aims of the meeting is to provide a networking opportunity for researchers working in this diverse area.
The meeting is free, but spaces are limited. Please e-mail John Paul Gosling ([log in to unmask]) if would like more information or if you are interested in attending.
Organisers:
John Paul Gosling (University of Leeds)
Richard Wilkinson (University of Nottingham)
Danny Williamson (Durham University)
