Dear all,
As part of an ESRC funded project a few of us have been looking at the benchmark statement for geography, what is says about quantitative methods, and suggesting some possible recommendations for change.
The fruits of our labour can be viewed at
https://docs.google.com/document/d/16HH-n5EDjhC7N2O4HFEQppCE0P-XxJkh-cjh47XNFmE/edit?usp=sharing
It is a very short document, briefly outlining how currently geography compares to other disciplines and making suggestions about how the statement could be revised.
As part of a consultation process, we would be interested in your views, which can be sent to [log in to unmask] I cannot promise to reply to them all but I will certainly read them. If they could be received over the next week or so it would be appreciated.
The idea is to include any recommendations in a short report that will be launched at the wine reception being hosted at the RGS-IBG conference (to which you are very much invited), see:
http://conference.rgs.org/conference/sessions/View.aspx?heading=Y&session=8777233b-83b6-45c4-8214-4c9cb5354497
I should emphasise that what we are writing is not any official recommendation endorsed by any RGS-IBG working group looking at the benchmark statements. Rather, it is an effort to see if the quant community in geography can come to a collective view which may then be useful to the working group.
With best wishes, Richard
