Dear colleagues, and fellow list-memebers.
Firstly, we apologize for cross-posting. However, we hope that everyone can forward this CFP to anyone appropriate.

Contested spaces: colonization, settlement, and resistance
Colonization has impacted Indigenous peoples for centuries and continues to this day. The dispossession of indigenous belongings, settlement of indigenous territories, policing of indigenous bodies and identities, and resistance of indigenous peoples are all major aspects of social, political, and economic life in places around the world. At present, there are new rounds of colonization and indigenous resistance to colonization taking place throughout the world. In the session(s) we hope to bring together a variety of academic, community-based, and artistic scholars who have been researching these dynamics in contested spaces.
There are a variety of topics which we would consider to include within the session(s). Therefore, we are happy to consider any of the following:
- Historical/contemporary Indigenous land rights
- Issues related to development of traditional landscapes
- Activist movements (Idle No More, anti-mining protest, and Indigenous feminist activism)
- Colonial education
- Land occupation of contested places
- Geographies of race
- Settlement of indigenous territories
- Militarization of indigenous spaces
