With the chroma key capabilities of most editing programmes these days you
should be able to get good results with the simplest of equipment, so
before spending a packet on new stuff I'd make sure that the current stuff
is being used optimally. In particular, there are two common mistakes that
people make when trying a green (or whatever colour) screen:
1. Shoot in a room that's big enough to have a big space between the
subject and the screen. A good distance to aspire to is 10ft/3m between
the screen and your subject and another 10ft/3m between the subject and the
camera. This means that the screen should be slightly out of focus, making
the green more even. It also means that you should get little if any green
glow on your subject.
2. Try to light the green screen as evenly as possible. The ideal is to
have every bit of it exactly the same shade and to do that you need the
same amount of light on every bit of it -- or as close as you can manage.
I hope you find this helpful.
