Dear List Members
I would like to draw your attention to a Planning Application made to the Dartmoor National Parke Authority (DNPA) in relation to Owlacombe Bridge Cottage
Application Number - 0098/13
Proposal - Demolition of existing uninhabitable dwelling and associated garage/garden structures and replacement with a new dwelling and separate garage building.
Site Address - Owlacombe Bridge Cottage, Ashburton
This building is in a poor condition, but the history associated with it renders it an asset to our Mining Heritage, and in my opinion should be preserved and not demolished.
I implore you to write to the DNPA planning case officer, Mr. James Aven, outlining objections if you feel that our mining heritage should be preserved.
A brief history of Owlacombe Bridge Cottage
• The cottage was a 19th century Tin Dressers' residence for the Owlacombe Tin Mines.
• Owlacombe Mines are documented from the 15th century, although not sure when the cottage was built.
• The Grose family occupied the cottage for many years, and had a very important part in all types of mining in and around the immediate vicinity.
• The cottage in question is probably one of the last remaining 'Tin Dressers' Cottage' left in Devon.
• The cottage if preserved (if only external form) will be very important for future generations, and
Please take the time and trouble to respond to this request to save Owlacombe Bridge Cottage.
Kindest regards Chris Kelland
