Subject: job advertisement
Dear Nick,
A couple of years ago we set up a Sanger-EBI working group on women in science, to try to address the paucity of women in scientific leadership positions across the Genome Campus and beyond.
We have been holding monthly events and have been successful in driving policy and practice change, and in raising awareness and showcasing role models.
The programme of work is entitled Sex in Science and we now have a full time coordinator role available. I was wondering if you could please forward this advertisement to anyone you think would be suitable for this role.
We would be particularly keen to see applicants with a background in social sciences and an interest in equality & diversity.
Many thanks,
Ele

Sex in Science Programme Co-ordinator
£23,225 to £37,525 depending on skills and experience Fixed term contract until September 2016 The Sex in Science (SiS) Programme is a joint venture between the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute: to raise awareness of issues affecting the 'leaky pipeline' of women in science; to address and challenge preconceptions; to inspire women and men at different stages of their scientific careers to progress to senior levels; and to foster constructive discussion and influence change to address these issues.
In addition, the Sanger Institute is now working on its first Athena SWAN award application, which will be submitted in July, and establishing an Action Plan to make changes and monitor their impact for an initial 3-year period.
To support these two exciting initiatives we are looking for a confident, pro-active and highly organised individual with an interest in diversity issues to support these two exciting initiatives.
The postholder will become an active member of both our SiS Working Group and Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team, providing secretariat support and working with the Chair of both groups to identify, drive and influence change. They will organise a range of events as part of our rolling campus SiS programme, produce and present statistics to monitor the impact of change and play a key role in staying abreast of developments in the area, networking externally to raise the profile of our work and help us to influence change at a national and international level. There may also be future opportunities to get involved with broader, ongoing diversity work at the Sanger Institute.

Other information
The Genome Campus is a 55-acre estate south of Cambridge in the grounds of Hinxton Hall. Nestled in the quiet countryside of these landscaped gardens, are two world-class research facilities: the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). The site has become the British hub of biomedical science. The Campus is also home to the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses and Scientific Conferences programme and the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre.
In addition to its peaceful location the campus offers excellent facilities including a state of the art data centre, gym, two cafes, a nursery, dining facilities, a cycle to work scheme, car sharing and free campus buses from various locations around Cambridge.
Equally important to campus life is the range of social activities offered by the Sports and Social Club whether it is a Burns' Night Supper, the Mid-Summer Ball or a quiz night there are opportunities to meet with people working across the organization.
Learning, development and networking are other important aspects of life on campus. There are a range of scientific seminars with our own and invited speakers, scientific group meetings and skills development workshops.
