This post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly numerate graduate, who wishes to start an academic career in medical statistics, to gain a broad experience of working with academics and clinicians in the design, conduct and analysis of randomised controlled trials based in community and hospital settings. The successful applicant will be supervised by senior statisticians, and will be supported in developing their knowledge and skills through attending appropriate short courses and academic conferences.
The successful applicant will join the Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration, a successful UKCRC-registered and NCRI-accredited trials unit within the multi-disciplinary environment at the School of Social and Community Medicine, University of Bristol. The School has an outstanding track record in epidemiological and health services research, and provides a stimulating environment in which junior research staff thrive.
The successful applicant will have a Master’s degree with a strong focus on quantitative analysis in both the taught and project components, OR an undergraduate honours degree (2i or above) with a strong statistical component and at least two years post-graduate experience as an applied statistician. Experience of working with clinical data is not essential; however you should be self-motivated, a clear communicator, and able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for applying mathematical ideas to real world problems.
