UKSG WEBINAR SERIES, PART TWO: GETTING TECHNICAL
19TH JUNE 2013, 2PM - THE MOBILE ADVANTAGE: DEVELOPING MOBILE SERVICES AND RESOURCES FOR LIBRARIANS AND CONTENT PROVIDERS
Hosted by Ben Showers (Jisc) and Jo Alcock (Birmingham City University)
This session aims to equip attendees with an understanding of the current mobile landscape and to help them consider the impact this has on libraries, publishers and users in providing access to resources and services. It will provide an overview of current developments in mobile services and resources for libraries and content providers. It will then focus on sharing examples, advice and case studies in the areas of 'Developing Mobile Library Services', 'Access to Content' and 'The Mobile Advantage'. Ben and Jo will conclude with a reality check to apply the ideas into a real world context and a call to action for those considering developing mobile services or mobile content.
The webinar will be accompanied by a blog post on the Jisc mobile technologies in libraries blog which will include relevant resources and practical advice.
26TH JUNE 2013, 2PM - NAVIGATING THROUGH THE NEW LIBRARY SYSTEMS LANDSCAPE
Hosted by Ken Chad (Ken Chad Consulting Ltd)
Many academic libraries are finding their library systems infrastructure is not adequately meeting new demands from end users, library staff or their institutions. The age of the library management system (LMS)/integrated library system (ILS) is coming to an end and a new generation of Library Services Platforms is emerging. However it is still very early days and the new systems remain immature and only encompass part of the overall library technology infrastructure. What should libraries do?
Ken Chad has been involved with library systems for over 20 years and will guide you through this new landscape. He will highlight some helpful resources and suggest some approaches to finding a way forward for libraries who are thinking of changing their library systems.
