Dear all,
We would like to present you the Slow Motion Spin project (http://www.slowmotionspin.eu) that intends to contribute to the raising public awareness by gathering and documenting stories of cycling communities from across Eurasia (with emphasis on non-European societies). Such accounts of cycling experiences aim to present publicly the practical, creative and down-to-earth examples of positive social and material impact of cycling on people’s lives. The output will not be strictly to academic standards and will aim to be accessible to general public.
The project is currently in its early stage and we are continuously working on expanding our contact list. We are looking for NGOs, public initiatives, activists, scholars, and charities from the respective countries, who do share our curiosity, are active in field related to our concerns and who might be interested in cooperating with us on this project. Our preliminary idea is to identify places, events and issues of importance in each from approximately 30 countries we will be pedalling through and document them with the assistance and guidance negotiated by our local contacts. The reports will be appearing during the course of our journey on our blog, on selected web portals and printed magazines in Czech and English language. After our arrival they will be eventually published in book.
We are currently probing preliminary interest in a project of this format. In case this rough sketch have sparked any interest, please get back to us with any comments or recommendations you would like to share. Also, if you are aware of any specific event, place or issue related to cycling (infrastructure), bicycle-friendly urban planning, grass-root cycling movements, inspirational cycling initiatives, regulations etc. from basically anywhere from UK to Malaysia, please let us know. We will also greatly appreciate any recommendations regarding contact persons, organizations as well as individuals from these countries that might be interested in getting involved.
many thanks
