The Library, Art & Archives department at the Royal Botanic Gardens is responsible for organising and managing one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of botanical literature, art and Kew’s own archives and modern records, which form an unparalleled resource for a large and increasingly diverse global user community. Working with the Directors' Correspondence collection, the Digitisation Officer will enter details of the archival material into an Access database, image the letters and produce a summary of their content.
This role will also contribute to Kew LAA blog and @KewDC Twitter accounts in order to promote the project and increase awareness of the Directors' Correspondence collection. You may occasionally need to demonstrate your work to visitors and potential supporters.
You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work meticulously with close attention to detail, preferably with knowledge of digital imaging techniques and image manipulation software. You will be able to plan your time effectively and work flexibly within a team environment. Experience of working in the field of natural history or archival collections is desirable and an ability to handle delicate, valuable manuscripts in a careful and responsible manner is essential.
