Hello
Many members of this list will appreciate the challenge of persuading
medical graduates with a heavy clinical workload to take time out for
training in pedagogical theory designed to make them more effective
educators. However, clinicians continue to take on opportunities to
supervise undergraduate research. Arguably, these opportunities ought to
be regarded at least in part as teaching opportunities. With this
perspective in mind, I would be most interested to learn whether any
medical faculties have supervisory training courses or other
professional pathways in place to address the above challenge, thus
ensuring that the learning experience of the student takes priority over
having an extra pair of hands to get some research published.
Additionally, if you sense that there are existing relevant pathways
within other disciplines which could be carried over to Medicine, then I
would welcome hearing from you.
Best wishes
Margaret MacDougall
