Dear Colleagues,
As we move to finalise the programme for the International Women Ageing and Media Research Summer School (2013), we would like to update you on the programme so far.
This years’ keynote will be presented by Dr Ros Jennings (Director of Women, Ageing and Media). The keynote title is: “Popular Music and Ageing” and is based on her work produced for the edited collection (with Abigail Gardner), ‘Rock on’: Women, Ageing and Popular Music and her current research project, Life soundtracks: Popular Music, Memory, Ageing and Identity. The presentation will act as an appetiser for Ros’ forthcoming keynote on ageing and popular music at the London College of Fashion sponsored event: 'Mirror Mirror: Representations and Reflections on Age and Ageing' (London, 29/30 October 2013), where she will be presenting her work alongside Julia Twigg, Margaret Morganroth Gullette and Lorna Warren.
The Women, Ageing and Media (WAM) research group are also delighted to announce that the Summer School will include the following two events:
i) An exhibition of photographs exploring the representation of older women by Vicky Hodgson (who will be available to talk about her work).
ii) A celebration to mark the launch of the new online journal: Postgraduate Journal of Women, Ageing and Media
Please remember that the application for the International Women, Ageing and Media Research Summer School is still open (PDF attached) but please note that the last date that we will accept abstracts is 14th June 2013.
Best wishes,
Eva
