There is the ACE Hostel on Micklegate http://www.acehotelyork.co.uk/indexyork.html
Or if you prefer a room of your own the Barconvent comes highly recommended http://www.bar-convent.org.uk/accommodation.htm

Sounds interesting, and I'd love to be there in person - haven't been to York in years. I can get a train from London for £35 return, but seeing as I'm currently funding all such activities out of my own pocket it'll have to be a very early start or some bargain basement accommodation. Anyone know of anywhere cheap to stay?
