The Royal Academy of Arts (RA) is one of the UK’s foremost arts institutions, best known for its programme of world-class exhibitions including The Real Van Gogh, Anish Kapoor and David Hockney RA: A Bigger Picture. Its vision is to be a clear, strong voice for art and artists. Its public programme promotes the creation, study and enjoyment of art to a wide range of audiences through exhibitions, education and debate.
The RA is in a period of significant transformation. As we approach our 250th anniversary in 2018, major investments are being made in our physical infrastructure, our public programme and our engagement with a range of audiences.
An ambitious new digital strategy will play an essential role in this transformation. A Digital team is being established within the Communications department but with a mandate that extends far beyond digital marketing communications to the ‘digital enabling’ of the RA.
An exciting and rare opportunity for an exceptional individual has arisen to lead this new team as Head of Digital.
Applicants should combine deep passion for digital and knowledge of best practice and emerging technologies with extensive, prior experience of successfully leading, developing and implementing digital strategy across organisations, ideally within the cultural/arts sector. The ideal candidate will have experience spanning web, social media, digital marketing, mobile and in-gallery experiences with a proven track record in overseeing systems procurement and integration such as CRM, intranet and digital asset management systems.
You should possess sound management skills with regard to projects, budgets and personnel and an approach that ensures the achievement of strategic organisational and business goals. Well presented, articulate and confident with a creative flair, you will possess first rate organisational and communications skills to build effective relationships with external stakeholders and with internal colleagues to develop the digital capacity of the RA.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest and knowledge of the visual arts and a commitment to the vision of the Royal Academy of Arts.
