Dear All,
A big thank you to everyone who replied to my message about keeping the Qu'ran on the open shelves. Many asked me to summarise responses, so here they are:
32 people replied in total.
Thirty would keep the Qu' ran on the open shelves, as removing it would restrict access and therefore constitute censorship. Many had consulted Muslim leaders and been reassured that if the Qu'ran is inside a library for the purposes of research, the restrictions which apply to a Muslim's own copy would not apply. The book should thus be treated as any other in the Library.
Two had removed the Arabic copies at request, with one also keeping translations behind the desk.
Eleven had been asked to move their copies to the top shelf and six had agreed to this.
We are keeping ours on the open shelves.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Chloe
