At the beginning of May I went to the National Archives in Kew and spent the morning looking at files KV 2/1829 and 1830. Started in 1933, these are the security services/police special branch files on the Robesons, who spent most of 1928-1939 in Britain.
A summary can be found on page 109 of my website - jeffreygreen.co.uk or put "Jeffrey Green.Historian" into your search engine and click on 109.
Peter Blackman and Desmond Buckle are mentioned and all four had letters and telegrams intercepted by the authorities.
The KV files cover Left- and Right-wing personalities, Nazi spies, and so on including Saklatvala the communist MP for Battersea.
Enjoy!
