‘Approaching Anniversaries: celebration and commemoration’
Call for Papers
London Metropolitan Archives is delighted to host the 18th Annual PSQG Forum on Wednesday, 6th November 2013.
The theme of this year’s Forum is ‘Approaching Anniversaries: celebration and commemoration’, exploring the use of archives to mark significant anniversaries.
The benefits of using archives in this way are various – highlighting collections and services, attracting new user groups into archives, setting current events into historical perspective, leveraging funding.
Are there drawbacks though? Too much focus on archive tie-ins may put a strain on already stretched resources, or skew public perception of what archives are for. It is also important to consider the appropriateness of archive tie-ins, and the need for sensitivity to different feelings within the community: is it celebration or commemoration?
For a wide-ranging and lively debate we would like to encourage contributions from across and beyond the archive sector. Perhaps you have a case-study (past or present), or thoughts on the broader theme?
Papers should be 20-25 minutes in length, with time for questions. Please submit a brief abstract (approx. 250 words) to [log in to unmask] The closing date for submissions is 5pm, Tuesday 18th June 2013.
Delegate bookings for the Forum will open in July 2013, but make a note in your diary now! The price has been held at £65 per person, inclusive of a light lunch.
PSQG is part of the Archives and Records Association (UK and Ireland) and focuses on access and service delivery issues in the archives sector.
