We are currently advertising a 3-year postdoc position suitable for candidates with (or near to obtaining) a PhD in statistics. The project in question is an interdisciplinary one funded by the EPSRC Mathematical Sciences for Manufacturing the Future initiative: the team brings together a range of complementary skills and is composed of myself, Dr Julia Brettschneider and Dr Tom Nichols from Statistics, and Dr Greg Gibbons, Dr John Thornby and Prof Mark Williams from Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). The aim of the project is to assist the present development of Additive Layer Manufacturing ("3-D Printing"), by using statistical methods to enhance statistical process control based on computed tomography data. We plan to use a wide range of statistical techniques ranging from false discovery methods to diagnostics based on stochastic geometry ideas. For the position in question we'd be particularly interested in candidates with strong backgrounds in applied statistics and (ideally) some experience of industrial statistics. The post will be held in the Statistics Department, though the project will progress in close liaison with our WMG partners.
