£ 31,331- £37,382 plus London allowance £2323) to join an expanding team at the Biomedical Research for Mental Health in the MRC SGDP Centre at KCL. The position is open for 24 months in the first instance but may be extended. The successful candidate will have a key role in large translational research projects in our NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health, developing and analysing data from a series of large personalised medicine and genomics projects.
Although this role is bioinformatics/large-data focused, we would welcome applications from individuals with a strong computer science or statistical analysis background who would be interested in developing their bioinformatics skills and vice versa.
Details: The successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. genetics, bioinformatics) or an exceptional MSc. Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX, programming and basic scripting alongside good statistical knowledge is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate interest in the translation of genomics research into clinical practice and experience with writing and publishing papers of high scientific standard is desirable.
The projects include integrative analysis of pharmacogenomic, treatment response, proteomic, transcriptomic, epigenetic and clinical data and their potential role in treatment response in major depressive disorder as well as other psychiatric and neurological disorders, such as schizophrenia and autism. In addition, the position will involve liaison with our lab core for sample maintenance of large-scale DNA resources and integration of work across several collaborative centres. The successful candidate will be a member of the Statistical Genetics Unit at KCL. There will be opportunity to lead on important publications.
