The NIHR Research Methods Internship, available for 8 weeks duration (from July 8th 2013), and funded by a prestigious NIHR Research Methods award, is based jointly in the Clinical Practice Research Unit (CPRU) and the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit in the School of Health.
The Intern will gain practical experience in working as a statistician in a health research environment, whilst developing their understanding of the application of statistical methods to clinical trials.
The Internship is linked to a NIHR programme grant: Identifying Continence OptioNs after Stroke (ICONS) and, in particular, its feasibility trial component. ICONS is led by Professor Caroline Watkins, an NIHR Senior Investigator. The particular focus of the Intern's work will be analysis of quality of life data from the ICONS trial. The Intern will be supported by the NIHR Research Methods Fellow linked to ICONS, Edmore Chamapiwa, and supervised by Dr. Chris Sutton, Principal Lecturer in the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit.
Applicants should be a home or EU undergraduate student in the second year of their degree (or third year of a 4-year degree), preferably studying mathematics or statistics. Those studying another quantitative subject may also apply if their A-levels include Mathematics.
