A post-doctoral research position will be open on Sept 1st 2013, in the VUV beamline DESIRS group (L. Nahon, G. Garcia, N. de Oliveira) at Synchrotron SOLEIL, on a PEPICO/molecular beam machine.
The DESIRS beamline, covering the 5-40 eV range with very high resolution and variable polarization aims at studying gas phase VUV high resolution spectroscopy and (polarization-dependant) molecular and photoionization dynamics. See http://www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/Recherche/LignesLumiere/DESIRS
On one branch of the beamline is connected a versatile molecular beam chamber, SAPHIRS, allowing to handle gaseous, liquid and solid samples (+ radicals) as well as nanoparticles, equipped with a new double imaging electron/ion coincidence spectrometer (called DELICIOUS3, as an upgrade of DELICIOUS2 see G. Garcia et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 80, 023102 (2009)), coupling a VMI spectrometer for the electrons to a 3D momentum imaging spectrometer on the ion side.
The candidate will be involved into one or more of our scientific programs on this branch, for which he/she is expected to bring a sound personal contribution, including:
• VUV photodynamics (spectroscopy, fragmentation and photoionization) of size-selected molecular complexes and clusters via TPEPICO, AR-PEPICO and e-/ion energy correlations.
• High resolution AR-PES to probe photoionization dynamics on small molecular systems
• Photoelectron Circular Dichroism (PECD) on different chiral samples
• Angle-resolved Photoemission on nanoparticles
Besides this in-house research program, the candidate will be involved in the hosting of some user teams, on the SAPHIRS branch, with whom we have established collaborations (on biomolecules, radicals, flames, clusters...).
The contract is for 2 years (one year initially to be renewed upon mutual agreement) with a net salary of 2380 euros/month and including a full health insurance package. Knowledge of French is not mandatory, but in such a case a fluent level of spoken and written English would be required.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry or Physics, since no more than 3 years. A solid background in molecular/photoionization dynamics is necessary, as well as experience in electron and/or ion mass spectroscopy associated with molecular beams. Previous expertise in handling samples such as molecular complexes, clusters or nanoparticles would be a real plus. Experience in synchrotron radiation and/or coincidence techniques is not mandatory.
Interested candidates should contact by e-mail Laurent Nahon at SOLEIL ([log in to unmask]) providing a cover/motivation letter, CV, list of publications and have 2 letters of reference sent before May 24th.
