“Food: Good, Bad or Ugly?"
A roundtable session on food hosted by the 'Culture, Imagination and
Practice' and the 'Medicine, Science and Culture' research groups
Wednesday 24th April 2013 (14:00-16:30)
Glamorgan Building, Room -1.72, Cardiff University
The MeSC and CIP research groups are hosting a roundtable session entitled
'Food: Good, Bad or Ugly' on Wednesday 24th April 2013 at 14:00-16:30 at
Cardiff University School of Social Sciences (room -1.72 Glamorgan
Building, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff CF10 3WT). In the current
climate, food - especially in relation to health - is a controversial
topic, particularly in light of the horse meat fiasco. This session will
be a space in which contributors from different areas will be sharing
their perspective on the issue of food. Our guest contributors include
Lara Bell (The London Food Project/LSE), Ian Purcell (The Cardiff
Foodbank), Martin O’Neill (WISERD) and Jess Paddock (Sustainable Places
Research Institute). Drawing on her research exploring the food of
differing nationalities in London, Lara Bell will highlight the
transcendental nature of food and its power to bring together all people
of diverse cultures. Ian Purcell will discuss the current situation of
food distribution and availability in relation to the work of the Cardiff
Foodbank. Martin O'Neill will speak about his research capturing the
barriers to healthy eating that emerge in working-class environments and
Jess Paddock will discuss her research which explores sustainable food and
class division.
If you require any more information with regards to this event or would
like to be included on either the CIP or MeSC mailing list, please contact
