Yes google docs is a cheap and cheery alternative. Mike is right to check that people have access, but assuming your audience does, Google is very good as you have the spreadsheet tools etc.
Did you know it can be pimped too. If you create a spreadsheet, and set up the standard form, you can then use the html for the form control ids and submit code path as the basis for your own form that you can host elsewhere. I have managed to get this to work to add html5 sliders and other features that control data entry values for a data controlled puppet, but you could also use it to brand your form with your branding, but still have it submit to Google spreadsheet.
This may be way more than you need mind!

I have a question which I'm hoping some of you can help with. I want to set up an online survey using a free service, however SurveyMonkey's free offer limits the number of questions and does not provide the option to download results.
I've come across some other providers and I wondered if you had an opinion on

Depending on what your objectives are and how you'll be deploying the
survey, I've found socialsci to be a decent tool. However, many of these
free online survey sites do not display the same across platforms and do
not have the same usability as survey monkey and wufoo (my favourite).

Depending on your audience, have a look at Google Forms / spreadsheets. Free, and lots of responses allowed, plus you can do some nice stuff with the analysis / flow through the form if you need to.
Reason I mention audience is there are still some local authorities / museums who prevent access to GDocs. Fools.

Subject: Test the Wallace Collection's StickyWorld!
Dear MCGers,
Here at the Wallace Collection we have been working on one of the
projects sponsored by ICTomorrow, aimed developing new digital tools for
the cultural sector. For the last 8 months we have been working with the
team at StickyWorld. Their platform allows organisations to publish more
interactive slideshows and 360 virtual tours, and to invite online
audiences to comment and ask questions by leaving comments in virtual
sticky notes on the slides.
We have set up our StickyWorld to create a virtual tour of our largest
gallery, the Great Gallery, which is currently closed for refurbishment
until 2014. The StickyWorld shows how the gallery used to look, and
links to information about the objects that were previously displayed in
the gallery, much of which is now in store. We are also posting photos
of the build as the project progresses.
