Great to see such interest in interactive visual timelines here! This is the subject of my PhD which I am undertaking at the Royal College of Art, supervised by Stephen Boyd Davis and in collaboration with System Simulation.
We are working on interactive timelines, which we are considering not only as a means for presenting data, but also as a tool for examining and discovering patterns and relationships through time. We feel that there could be a lot more gained from exploring collections in visual timelines than is possible with current interactive timelines.
May I ask, what is it that for you characterises a 'great visual timeline'?
And for the people who have answered so far, what are you using them for?
Looking forward to hear your thoughts!
