CFP – ATSS @ ITSC'2013

Special Session on
Artificial Transportation Systems and Simulation: Innovative Trends

To be held at the
16th IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems
October 6 - 9, 2013 . The Hague, The Netherlands
(http://ieee-itsc13.org/)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

          *** SUBMISSION DEADLINE APPROACHING: March 15, 2013 ***

AIM AND SCOPE
=====================================================================
"Artificial Transportations Systems and Simulation: innovative trends"
follows up previous editions of Special Sessions and Workshops on
Artificial Transportation Systems and Simulation (ATSS) held at IEEE
ITS Conferences, supported and promoted by the IEEE ITS Society's ATSS
Technical Activities Sub-Committee. According to the current format of
ATSS Series, Special Sessions and Workshops are organised every two
years, in alternating occurrences every year. Therefore, the 2013
edition of the ATSS Special Session follows up the Special Session
held at IEEE ITSC 2011, in Washington-DC, USA.

The aim of the ATSS Series is to foster the discussion on issues
concerning the development of Artificial Transportation Systems and
Simulation as a means to devise, test and validate ITS-based
technologies. With the ability to integrate different transportation
models and solutions in a virtual environment, ATSS serves as an aid
to support decisions made by engineers and practitioners in a
controlled and safe manner. They also provide a natural ground where
new approaches can be experimented while avoiding natural drawbacks of
dealing directly with real critical domains, such as ITS. On the basis
of theories and methodologies borrowed from a wide spectrum of
disciplines, such as the Social Sciences, Distributed Computing,
Artificial Intelligence and Multi-agent Systems, Virtual Reality and
many others, some important issues arise which challenge and motivate
many researchers and practitioners from multidisciplinary fields, as
well as different technical and scientific communities.

Whereas workshops aim primarily at discussing in an informal
environment trends, work in progress and new ideas related to
Artificial Transportation Systems and Simulation, special sessions are
intended to be focused on specific developments and topics or problems
within the field. In this year’s edition of the Special Session, we
encourage and welcome contributions reporting on how the scientific
community and practitioners are further extending the concept of ATSS
and on new features of Artificial Transportation Systems to better
support the design and analysis of contemporary transportation and
mobility systems.

TOPICS OF INTEREST
=====================================================================
The scientific community, as well as active practitioners in the field
of ATSS are being contacted and invited to submit contributions to
this special session. In addition, we would like to suggest the
Conference’s Programme Chair to include in this Special Session papers
accepted to the main conference that address issues such as:

* Agents, Multi-agent Systems applied to traffic and transport (MAS-T)
* Real agent architectures and agent-human interactions
* Environment modelling and interaction protocols
* Bio-inspired approaches to tackle ITS related problems and other
modelling metaphors
* Collaboration, cooperation, competition, coalitions in traffic and
transportation models
* Learning and adaptation in ITS
* Social Simulation and emergent behaviour
* Behavioural Modelling and Activity-based Analysis
* Large-scale simulation of agent-based microscopic traffic model
* Calibration and validation of agent-based models for traffic and
transportation
* Data mining and new sources
* Hardware and software-in-the-loop simulation
* Cyber-physical Systems approaches and implementations
* Environmental Modelling for ITS Deployment
* Geographic Information Systems in ATSS
* Human Factors in ITS

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
=====================================================================
Although not compulsory, before submission deadline authors are kindly
asked to send the planned title of their papers, list of co-authors,
affiliations and contact person, by e-mail to the organisers, at their
earliest convenience and preferably by March 5th. For submission,
authors must follow the guidelines of IEEE ITS Conferences while
preparing their manuscripts; please, check the conference Web site for
details. Submissions must be made through the Papercept System,
accessible via (http://ieee-itsc13.org/index.php/call-for-papers).
While submitting your contribution, please follow the "Special Session
Paper" type of submission, and include the "Invited session
identification code" provided below (with no '*').

   ***  sg5au  ***

Special Session papers will undergo the same intense and rigorous
reviewing process as regular papers do and submission is not a
guarantee of acceptance. Accepted papers will be included in the
conference proceedings and indexed accordingly. Papers will be made
available electronically in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, as well.

IMPORTANT DATES
=====================================================================
* Full-paper submission deadline: March 15th, 2013
* Notification of acceptance: June 1st, 2013
* Final paper submission deadline: July 1st, 2013
