=====================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS

5th Workshop on Intelligent Systems and Applications (WISA)
at the 8th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (CISTI)
June 19-22, 2013 - Lisbon, Portugal
http://www.aisti.eu/cisti2013/

---------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Submission Deadline: MARCH 17, 2013 (EXTENDED!!!) ***

Scope
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The role of intelligent systems in the information technology context
is well established. This approach allows computational systems to
incorporate aspects usually associated with intelligent human
behaviour, such as perception, reasoning, learning, evolution,
adaptation, autonomy, social interaction and pro-activity.
Historically speaking, this is one of the main focuses of interest in
Artificial Intelligence. However, the dynamic contemporary world has
turned such characteristics a requirement in virtually every
information system. As time evolves and given the fast technological
development, intelligent systems are becoming even more feasible as
they take part in our daily lives. Additionally, their great potential
of application in different knowledge areas and sectors of the society
turns its development even more interdisciplinary, with contributions
from many different areas, not only engineering, computer science and
informatics, but also from human and social sciences.

This workshop is aimed at building an adequate forum for the
discussion of the many aspects related to the creation and development
of intelligent systems, both from a theoretical perspective and from
the practical exemplification of their potential applications. We
intend to gather the scientific community, industry and society to
discuss on the state-of-the-art models and architectures, as well as
on paradigms and frontiers that motivate much of the advance of
intelligent systems. Areas such as Artificial Intelligence, computing
theories and models of the human cognition, knowledge representation
and engineering, information infrastructure and distributed
intelligent systems on the Web are some of the areas to be explored
and deepen in this workshop.

Topics of Interest
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited
to the following areas:

* Artificial Intelligence
* Agent technology and multi-agent systems
* Cognitive and adaptive robotics
* Knowledge-based systems
* Machine learning
* Electronic Commerce
* Adaptive business intelligence
* Semantic Web and Ontologies
* Information retrieval
* Data and knowledge engineering
* Knowledge discovery from databases
* Data mining and OLAP
* Human-Computer Interaction
* Ubiquitous computing and mobile systems
* Service oriented architectures
* Expert and decision support systems
* Intelligent entertainment systems
* Evolutionary computing and other bio-inspired models

Paper Submission and Formatting Guidelines
---------------------------------------------------------------------
We invite prospective authors to submit their contributions, not yet
published, reporting on either work under development or concluded
projects about theoretical aspects or practical applications related
to the topics of the workshop. Contributions can be submitted in one
of three formats: full paper (6 pages), short paper (4 pages), or
poster (2 pages).

The paper preparation must follow the formatting guidelines of the
Conference (DOT, PDF), and should be written either in Portuguese, in
Spanish, or in English. All contributions must be submitted in PDF
format, through the EasyChair platform
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wisa20130). At least
three members from the workshop’s Programme Committee will assess and
comment on each submission, following a double “blind-review” process.
Therefore, authors should take special care to delete their names and
affiliation from the paper during the reviewing phase, as well as
obfuscate any other references in the text that can possibly identify
them.

Publication
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Regardless of the type of submission, the Workshop’s Programme
Committee may suggest papers to be accepted as full-paper (6 pages),
short-paper (4 pages) or poster (2 pages). Full papers will be
published in both book and CD formats, with an ISBN. Short papers,
poster papers and company papers will be published in CD only, with an
ISBN. Published full papers will be sent to EBSCO, EI, IEEE XPlore,
INSPEC, ISI and SCOPUS. Published short papers will be sent to EBSCO,
EI, IEEE XPlore, INSPEC e SCOPUS. Poster papers and company papers
will be sent to EBSCO and EI-Compendex.

Important Dates
---------------------------------------------------------------------
* Paper submission: March 17, 2013 (EXTENDED!)
* Paper acceptance/rejection notification: April 1, 2013
* Camera-ready version and registration due: April 12, 2013
* Conference: June 19-22, 2013
