Hello all,
I was a big fan of Qualtrics also but as Barry says it does limit what you
can do so recently I have been exploring 'limesurvey' which is freeware
and thus being developed all the time which makes it very flexible but a
bit 'geeky' to programme. However, it is possible to do most of what you
would want to in a survey without being a programmer!

have fun!

Definitely try Qualtrics. However note that the free version is a bit
limited: "...no access to the Survey Mailer (feature that sends survey
invitations by e-mail), a maximum of 100 respondents, no more than 50
questions per survey and 2 total surveys with only 1 active at a time, and
a limit of 2 blocks per survey..."

However you should check at your university to see if they subscribe to
the full version of qualtrics, and if they don't then why not ask them if
they can get a licence. The licence will cover X number of other
researchers at York, so you would be doing all of those people a big by
getting York hooked up with the full version of Qualtrics.
Hope this helps!

I second Qualtrics. When I'm not being a PhD student I have another 'life'
as the survey systems manager for the Open University - Qualtrics is the
tool that we've adopted for all student research. I've also used it for my
PhD studies and I love how easy it is to set up complex surveys and get
the results out to analyse in SPSS.
Good luck with the project!

Without a doubt, qualtrics.
It lets you build as many blocks as you like with a free student account,
it lets you control how many items are on a page, and it lets you see
individual data (in excel form).
The customer help/guide is excellent and it also lets you measure reaction
times.
I have also tried surveymonkey and surveygizmo.

What is the best free online survey you have found to pilot a study? I
