This is Hamidreza Nematzadeh. My research areas are design thinking, design process, design methodology and design and social and cultural context, emotional design. Since I was a Master student I've been working on a specific research project related to my research area.
In my project I am supposed to overcome ethnocentric rationalism beyond so-called functional and modern design theories. Specifically the role of mythical thought in transferring human knowledge would be investigated. The main problem is that majority of design theories have been concentrated on scientific aspects of human activities, eliminating the element of culture. The results would be designed artifacts based on mythology, to be evaluated and improved by users of target culture.
The aim of this project is defined within domain of generative design research and generative design tools, emphasizing the role of deep and latent thought of user in investigating novel product concepts (Sanders & Stappers). Current research was focusing on involving the user in knowledge generation through making, performing or imagination of an ideal product. This project claims that deep and tacit layers of user are embedded within their own culture. Such a layer has not been fully recognized, nor there tools or methods in order to achieve it. The main objectives of this proposal is:
a. Investigating the role of mythical thought in generating human knowledge and the procedure of knowledge transfer through myth
b. Exploration and formulation of the mythical thought behind existing products, embedding a hypothesis that even western artifacts and scientific view have their own mythical infrastructure
Generating tools and methods in order to apply mythical thought in product design and ability to assess the consequences of such an application through appropriate simulation methods and techniques.
The initial result of my project which I presented in some international conferences has been engaged me to work on this project as a PhD project. So these days I am looking for a good university where I can work on my project as a PhD student. I posted the short here if any of you could help me.
