medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

> The diacritics indicate meaning (for homographs) and/or pronunciation.
what's a "homograph"?
is it connected to whatever all the fuss in the SCotUS this week has been
about?
is it illegal in some Southern states in the US?
> For examples, see Piet Steenbakkers, Spinoza's Ethica from Manuscript to
Print, ch. 2 and
here it comes...
idem, 'Accent-marks in Neo-Latin', in ACNLH (1997), pp. 925-34.
sounds Right On.
what is ACNLH?
i don't think i've ever come across that one before.
something on-line, i should hope.
Ah, of course.
Acta Conventus Neo-Latini Hafniensis. Proceedings of the 8th International
Congress of Neo-Latin Studies. Copenhagen, 1991. Ed. Rhoda Schnur, et al.

well, i'll be jiggered.
amazing what human beings will do, if they are bored enough.
> My advice for your edition: ignore them, they are obsolete.
since i don't see them in modern critical editions, i have always assumed that
they were obsolete --but i just wondered why they were there and whether or
not they should influence in any way my transcription of the text.
>Meaning will almost always be clear from context.
i can do without "meaning," as long as i can do an accurate transcription of
the text.
"meaning" is such a relative term anyway.
"meaning"
what a Concept.
Soooo 20th century.
thanks, James.
