We print only the borrower number (which is part of their student number anyway), and the slip is wrapped around the book and secured with an elastic band before being shelved in numerical order in the short loan (secure) area. The email that the borrower gets has their number on it but they don't have any problem with finding the item using this procedure.

Subject: Self collection of reservations
Please can you tell me how you file books that readers have reserved for collection if you operate and self collection facility at your institiution.
We are about to move to RFID self service this summer and the hold slips automatically generated by our LMS have full names and user IDs printed on them. We were going to remove the name and file them on the open shelf in user ID order but have been advised that this is not acceptable from a data protection point of view.
Please could you let me know how you manage this.
